Privacy policy

localpass.tv is a free media player for your home: a server app for Windows and an app for Android phones, tablets and Google TV. It plays video and music files you already have. It doesn't provide, host, sell or link to any movies, shows or music.
The short version
localpass.tv sends nothing to its developer. There are no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking or crash reporting. Your library stays on your own computer and your own home network.
What stays on your devices
- On your Windows computer:
- your library list (file names and folders)
- watch progress and your watchlist
- your music favourites, playlists and how often you play each song
- your settings, including any API keys you add
- cached artwork and subtitles
- On your phone or TV: the address of your localpass.tv server and display preferences (for example subtitle size).
The phone and TV app only talks to your own localpass.tv server on your home network.
Optional online services
localpass.tv works without any online service. If you choose to add your own key for one of the services below, your Windows computer contacts that service directly, under that service's own terms and privacy policy. The developer of localpass.tv never receives this data.
| Service | Used for | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| TMDB (themoviedb.org) | Titles, artwork, plots, cast, episode lists, trailers, Discover; the film a soundtrack album belongs to | Titles and years from your file names and music tags, title ids, your API key |
| OMDb (omdbapi.com) | IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores | Title ids, your API key |
| OpenSubtitles.com | Subtitles | Title ids, season and episode numbers, preferred languages, your API key and, if you add it, your OpenSubtitles login |
| YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) | Trailers, played in YouTube's own player | The trailer you choose to watch |
| LRCLIB (lrclib.net) | Song lyrics, only if you turn on "Look up lyrics online" (no key or account) | The song's title, artists, album and length |
Like any internet request, these services can see your computer's IP address. Your keys are stored only on your computer and are only sent to the service they belong to.
Children
localpass.tv is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
